An awning over bifold doors is becoming increasingly popular. Bifold doors add a beautiful and contemporary addition to any home. They help to add floods of natural light into any room and extends your home into the garden when folded open. Unfortunately, the only con that comes with this is the amount of heat absorbed. The large area of glass is penetrated by the sun and can make the room very uncomfortable in the summer if not unbearable. This is a very common problem which is why people are searching for a shading solution and you are reading this page now. The answer to your problem is a patio awning / retractable roof.
Awnings are the most suitable shading solution over bifold doors. They can be retracted when not in use but provide the largest area of shade when fully extended. With the addition of an awning, it also helps create an entertaining area when the bifold doors are extended open. You also have the option of adding patio heaters and LED lighting if you want to enjoy those extra few hours after sunset.
Selecting the right awning that compliments your bifold doors, patio and internal décor is important. We have a large range of fabrics and cassette colours to make sure you can configure a bespoke awning that is perfect for you.
What if I don’t have any room above my bifold doors for an awning?
It is very common that there is only a course of soldier bricks above the bifold doors or very limited room. However, this does not mean that you cannot have an awning. We have a fabricating team that can design bespoke unobtrusive brackets to ensure an awning can be installed over your bifold doors. Only in some extreme circumstances, you may choose to go with a retractable roof with supporting legs instead of an awning. This would only be if you have no side room either side of the doors for the brackets to be fixed. See some examples below of where we have mounted our awnings over bifold doors.
Here is what one of customer’s had to say about their experience
We found Rolux UK after an online search for a shading solution, for our newly installed bifold doors installed by Hanley trade frames.
After completing building work to create the open plan kitchen/dining area we had dreamt of, the 4 metre bifold doors created a huge problem. Although they looked great, trying to cook a meal was unbearable, as the kitchen is south facing and the bifolds just intensified the heat! After a phone call to a helpful member of the Rolux team, they recommended one of their sun awnings, as a solution to our bifold door dilemma.
We arranged for Ben to carry out a site survey, he proved to be extremely knowledgeable about the awnings and offered sound advice.
A 5 metre width was recommended to create the maximum shade we required. As we had not got much room above the doors, bespoke brackets were required to make the awning installation possible. Due to the end fix design, Ben recommended the Berkshire awning.
After choosing a beautiful striped fabric and anthracite cassette, to match our door frame and garden furniture, we placed the order.
Four weeks later, our new awning was up and running.
The awning sits perfectly over the bifold doors and creates the shade we so desperately needed.
As we decided to have a sun sensor fitted to our awning, if we are not at home when the sun shines on the bifold, it automatically opens to provide shade and we are welcomed home by a cool kitchen.
Thank you to all at Rolux for your first class service and workmanship.
